What activities would you like to do?
Our activities and events
Due to Covid-19, a lot of our activities and events have been on hold. We’ll be reviewing the guidelines this summer and hope to run some engagement activities, such as the resident consultation, later this year. We’d love to hear about events or activities you’d like to see. Don’t forget to complete our poll to let us know your thoughts and ideas.
The Legacy Youth Zone is back in business
During the pandemic, the team at Legacy have done a great job at supporting the community and staying open as much as they could. They’re now welcoming 50-100 people back into the building, broken up into small groups. Government guidelines permitting, we hope that Legacy can stay open to run the summer holiday programme, of which we currently have secured 7 spaces. ccha has now been a founder patron of Legacy for the past three years. They provide an extensive list of activities to our younger residents (ages 8-19), including sports, music, drama and social events.
Our involvement with Legacy means that we’ve been able to offer free holiday club places for our residents, giving your child something fun to do in the holidays. This also helps those who can’t afford childcare during school holidays. It offers a safe, fun, and engaging place for your children to go while you work. Legacy is a great place to learn new skills, meet new people and relax. Children of all abilities are welcome, and the experienced team of staff and volunteers are there to help children experience all the activities offered. We have secured 7 summer holiday spaces available from 26th July, subject to any government guideline changes. We have had some interest already so to find out more or to secure your place, please email citeam@ccha.biz or call 0208 633 8736. For more information, visit our dedicated page on our website here.
Local work and training opportunities
Throughout the pandemic, we’ve continued to send out our jobs and training bulletin. The bulletin gives you details on local vacancies, apprenticeships and training courses. We’ve seen a big increase in subscribers lately, which is good news. We hope you’re finding it useful, and please let us know if you’d like to see anything else. There have been opportunities with our contractors Axis, Chequers, and Smith & Byford. We also get vacancies and apprenticeships from Croydon College, Croydon Council and Croydon Works. Axis are running an apprenticeship programme specifically for our residents. We’re excited to be working with them on this project. If you’ve missed out this time, make sure you get our bulletins for the next round of recruitment. Work experience and volunteering is still on hold for now. We hope to review the situation later in the year when our contractors can ensure safe working environments for those taking part. If you’d like to receive the bulletin, you can sign up here.
Apply for funding to improve your community
The President’s Fund supports various social and community events and activities. More recently, due to Covid-19, the fund has been used to make improvements to some of the communal aspects of our estates that sit outside general repairs. We’ve had some great applications recently that you can check out below.
Outdoor furniture:
Residents at one of our properties needed a replacement for their outdoor furniture to socialise in the summer and maintain social distancing. The furniture was made out of recycled material, making it sustainable and durable and it looks nice in their communal garden.
New post boxes:
Safety and security are important to us so when a resident needed a safe space for their post to be stored, the President’s Fund was used to provide individual post boxes to the block of flats.
New bedding plants:
The President’s Fund was used to replant some of the beds around various properties to allow residents to enjoy the garden again.
