Staff and partner engagement
Our priority for this year: Ensure clarity and consistency of approach to staff throughout ccha.
Improving our culture
In 2022, we developed a cultural improvement plan based around feedback from staff following the pandemic. This takes us to the end of our business plan and allows us to find our ‘new normal’ and build on the positive culture we have. This year, we have had several workshops on different topics, followed by regular surveys to help us adapt the plan to reflect the changing internal and external environment.
During the year, we reviewed all our training to ensure it is aligned with staff roles and responsibilities. Recruitment has also been a focus, as we reviewed the onboarding process and looked at how we can retain skilled staff. By enhancing these areas, we expect a ripple effect into how we deliver services to residents.
Staff wellbeing
We successfully moved from our Norfolk House offices to Sheldon Street which is significantly smaller but was designed with team collaboration in mind. Staff attend a minimum of once a week to keep that essential face to face contact with their colleagues and residents and promote positive communication, with the rest of the time worked from home or out on our estates. This hybrid working style compliments our flexible approach and has been welcomed by staff. We continued to run wellbeing events both virtually and in person to support a healthy balance of activities for all.
“It’s a light and airy space. My favourite part is the downstairs breakout/kitchen area - it feels like a nice restaurant! A nice place to work or relax over lunch.” ccha staff member
Working together
Our commitment to Legacy Youth Zone has continued. We have provided seven holiday places for our residents to use each season, and have promoted the centre throughout the year, with 28 residents taking advantage of it. Legacy provides a great offering to the young people in Croydon, giving them a place to go, develop friendships, skills and have fun.
We worked with our contractors to share vacancies, offer work experience, apprenticeships and workshops for our residents. This year, one of our residents was hired as an apprentice following some work experience with Axis, which was a really positive outcome. Axis also provided a handyperson service to our older person’s housing, helping residents with small tasks around their homes.
“It’s nice to have a space where we can meet and come together to work collaboratively.”
