Money matters
Watch the video to get valuable information and tips from Jane and Evelyn on getting debt-free.
We have a simple 3-point plan to begin to address any debt problems you may be experiencing.
Step 1 — Talk to someone
This could be a trusted friend or a family member and there are a few non-for-profit debt organisations that you can contact such as:
Call 0800 138 1111 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 2pm on Saturday.
Call 0808 171 3043 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9:20am - 1pm on Saturday.
Call 0800 328 0006 9:30am - 5pm Monday - Thursday and 9:30am - 3:30pm on Friday.
Call 0800 240 4420 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9:30am - 1pm on Saturday.
Step 2 — Apply for breathing Space
You can ask for breathing space. There are rules in this country which mean anyone can request a 30-day or 60-day holiday during which time debtors are not permitted to hassle you for money. You could even get this space extended if you, for example, have certain health conditions.
This step could give you time to look at step 3.
Step 3 — Make a plan
To maximise your income, we have a dedicated welfare and debt advice service.
We can:
- look at any benefits you may be entitled to
- help you with applications
- look at grants you may be entitled to
- help you with emergency provisions.
