Resident spotlight

Hello, I’m Winston, but many people know me as JJ Appleby.

I was born in Jamaica in 1945. When I was little, I attended Greenwich Town School in Kingston. I’d love to catch up with you if you're from the same neighbourhood or attended the same school.

I’m the only son with three sisters. After high school, my mother was already living in England and invited me to live with her in the UK.

By the age of 14, I joined my mother in England, and that's where I’ve been ever since, although I visited Jamaica for holidays.

I am a father to four daughters. I’m a vegetarian who loves playing football as a hobby and making music – lots of music.

After going solo from The Equators band, which toured Europe, part of Asia, and southern America, I’ve made and released nonstop songs and official music videos circulating globally with hit albums and singles under my new label and management, LTM Records and DMBX FX.

I’ve been told I have a unique and natural scintillating voice, always echoing the sound of relief and happiness that transcends my soul. A voice that embodies soft rock with gospel reggae and has dynamic musical deliveries. And sure, I have a few hit songs such as 'What's Your Name', which I’m very proud of. It won me an award for the Best Soul Album. I’ve been releasing song after song and album after album, such as Alfro Drums EP, Lively Up and Disguise.

I must have released about 14 albums, 12 singles, and 6 EP albums. My current project is a three-hit Riddim project with hit songs like Those Days, Kings Waiting, and Zion, which was mixed by Ariwa Studio in the UK and remixed and mastered by DMBX FX Studio in Africa.

One of my recent projects, Tour Africa, launched this year across East and West Africa and part of Europe.

I’m still in love with music. I’m looking forward to collaborating, especially with music management and production in the UK. So, if you know someone who’d love to get involved, get in touch. Let ccha know, and they’ll introduce us.

We thank Winston for participating and taking the time to tell us his story. Feel free to follow Winston on his TikTok channel.

We hope to expand and feature more true-life stories from our residents and communities. If you’d like to get involved, email Sam and say "hello" at samm@ccha.co.uk or call on 020 8680 7532 or freephone 0800 054 6710 and ask for him.
