Money matters
Our Welfare & Benefits team is here to help you make the most of your money. Here’s a look at some recent changes and how they might affect you.
What’s changed in the last 12 months?
Two-child limit removed for Universal Credit
Since April 2026, families can receive Universal Credit child payments for all eligible children, not just the first two. Please note that not every family with more than two children will automatically see an increase.
Changes to LCWRA payments
From April 2026, Universal Credit Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) payments for new claimants have changed. There are now two rates: £217.26 (standard) and £429.80 (protected, for those already receiving LCWRA before April 2026). Some people with severe conditions or terminal illness may still qualify for the higher rate.
Crisis and Resilience Fund
The Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments are being replaced by the new Crisis and Resilience Fund. What’s available varies by council, so check your local council’s website or contact us for details.

Resident story
“I’ve had a lot of help from Jane over the years. When I was facing a £230 debt with British Gas, she stepped in, spoke with them directly, and had the debt written off completely. She’s also helped me with complex benefit forms, including a successful DLA claim for my son, even before he had a formal diagnosis. I honestly don’t know what I’d have done without her support.”
